Responsible Play
Effective date: October 15, 2026Last updated: October 15, 2026
Backed is a place to share and track sports plays with other people. Backed does not accept members’ wagers, and it does not hold members’ money for wagering. If you choose to bet, you do it with a sportsbook or other service, under its rules. Betting should stay a form of entertainment, not a way to make money.
Keep it in perspective
- Betting involves financial risk. You can lose money, and losing is common.
- Never wager money you cannot afford to lose, such as money you need for rent, bills, food or debts.
- Set time and spending limits before you start, and stick to them.
- Avoid chasing losses. Trying to win back what you have lost usually leads to bigger losses.
- Take breaks, and step away when betting stops being fun.
- Do not bet while impaired, whether by alcohol or drugs, or when you are upset or stressed.
- Follow the law and the rules. Only bet where it is legal for you, and meet your sportsbook’s age and other requirements.
- Use your sportsbook’s tools. Many licensed sportsbooks offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
Plays on Backed are not guarantees
Plays on Backed are self-reported by members, and Backed does not verify that they were placed. Records and standings are calculated from those plays and Backed’s grading of them. A member’s past results, however good they look, do not predict future results, and no play on Backed is a guarantee or a recommendation to bet.
When to get help
Consider reaching out if gambling is causing problems with your:
- money: betting more than you planned, borrowing to bet or falling behind on bills;
- feelings: feeling anxious, irritable, guilty or low about betting;
- relationships: hiding your betting or arguing about it with people close to you; or
- work or school: betting getting in the way of what you need to do.
